Why you should start learning </br>how to knit now

Hi All,

How’s your fresh new year going so far? Hopefully your new resolutions are all organized by now and you’ve started working on them.

As I shared a few days ago one of my resolutions is knitting and crocheting more regularly and finishing projects. I started knitting at a fairly early age and even though I've drifted away from knitting at times in my life, Knitting and I have never fully broken up! I keep coming back! Obviously, there’s something in knitting I just can't resist!

First, it is so relaxing and enjoyable. Well, just like any other hobby, knitting required some time to learn the basics but soon I found a pleasant rhythm while I was clicking my needles in my two hands. It always calms me down and gives me a good comfort after a long day.

Second, knitting brings creativity. As a newbie I used to follow the pattern exactly as it called for. But, once I finished a few projects I was able to modify patterns using a method I like and a shape I prefer. The more projects I finished the better I got at adjusting the pattern the way I liked.

Third, knitting strengthened my self-esteem. As I finished projects one by one I gained a sense of accomplishment. Learning more techniques and finishing bigger projects always gives me a great feeling about myself and makes me keep going.

Fourth, knitting makes people feel happy and cozy: From the people who knit (which is ME!) to those who receive knitted items (often it is my hubby), and those who watch others knitting in their surroundings (I often get lots of questions while I am knitting in the subway or in public. I’m sure they enjoy looking at what I’m doing). Knitting adds warmth, coziness, and interaction to our life.

I could keep going with this! There are so many reasons that I cannot stop knitting. So many GOOD reasons! Have you heard that knitting generally helps people both physically and mentally?  Some research papers have even proven that knitting reduces blood pressure and strengthens our immune system. So knit for your health if for no other reason!  :)

Aren’t these awesome incentives that you should keep knitting or learn knitting for the first time? And isn’t today the perfect day to take off on that new journey? Well, stop thinking about it - now is the time to act! Grab your needles, get a favorite drink and start knitting! BTW, what makes YOU keep knitting? Anyone wanna share?  -S
